About Ashten
Ashten O’Malley writes children’s books that help little kids feel big feelings—and know that they’re not alone in them. Her stories are filled with heart, humor, and the kind of quiet bravery that shows up in lunchrooms, playgrounds, and bedtime thoughts.
Her debut book, The Very Brave Day, was inspired by her own kids, Jacob and Eleanor, and the small acts of courage they show every single day.
Ashten lives in California with her husband, her two brave kids, and a cabinet of coffee mugs that’s slightly out of control. She’s currently working on her next story, and hopes her books leave readers young and old feeling seen, safe, and maybe a little braver too.
Some fun facts!
I collect coffee mugs like they’re treasure. I don’t need more, but I definitely want more.
I love a good thrift store find—especially if it’s a designer brand or a vintage treasure.
My guilty pleasure TV shows? The Great British Bake-Off and Love Island UK. I’m obsessed.
If I could live anywhere else, it would be Ireland. There's something about it that feels like home.
I make up silly rhyming songs for my kids and read books in silly voices all the time. My husband finally said, “You should turn one of those into a book”—so I did.
