About the Author

I grew up loving words and books. I wrote in diaries, made up pretend stories, and wrote a screenplay at 13 because I wanted to meet Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Leonardo DiCaprio. The script was ridiculous; I wish I still had it. Some of my favorite children’s stories were Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker and Sock Snatchers by Lorna Balian, and I loved that books transported me to a world where anything was possible. I was born and raised in the small beach town of Ventura, California, where my husband and I are now raising our two kids. Our home is small but cozy and full of love.

As a mom, I’m always making up stories and songs for my kids, doing silly voices during bedtime reading, and turning ordinary days into little adventures. You’ll often find us at the bookstore, exploring shelves for our next favorite story, hosting play dates, or thrifting for treasures.

These days, I mostly have time for audiobooks, but I’m endlessly inspired by the work of children’s authors like Julia Donaldson, whose warmth, playfulness, and heart remind me what’s possible in a story.

My first book, The Very Brave Day, came to me while registering my kids for preschool and kindergarten. That spark became the start of Circle Time Stories: a home for books and tools that help kids grow emotionally through shared moments that spark big feelings, big hearts, and big imaginations.

I’m a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. Through my work, I hope to create stories that feel like a warm hug, a gentle nudge, and an open door all at once.

About Circle Time Stories

Circle Time Stories is the creative home of children’s book author Ashten O’Malley, where stories spark big feelings, big hearts, and big imaginations.

Here, you’ll find picture books and story time companions that help kids explore bravery, kindness, and courage in ways that feel playful, meaningful, and real. From learning how to be brave or kind, to navigating everyday moments like making a new friend or trying something new, every story is rooted in emotional growth and connection.

Circle Time Stories aims to meet kids right where they are—curious, silly, sensitive, strong; and to give parents and caregivers a gentle way to start big conversations. Alongside each book are thoughtful extras like Brave Buddies and Bravery Cards so those lessons leap off the page and into real life.

At its heart, Circle Time Stories is about storytelling that sticks: with language kids understand, moments they’ll remember, and feelings they’ll carry long after story time ends.

Welcome to the circle. Take a seat, it’s story time!
