The Best Christmas Movies Ever (In My Opinion)

You guys have been tagging in countless memes about Hallmark Christmas movies and I have to tell you, I FEEL SEEN. I love that all of you know that I am basically glued to the Hallmark Channel from November 1 until the Christmas movies end. I also want ALL THE HALLMARK MOVIE WATCHING GEAR YOU’VE BEEN TAGGING ME IN: mugs, sweatshirts, t-shirts, blankets. GIVE IT ALL TO ME.

But, did you know that Hallmark Christmas movies are not where my holiday movie obsession ends? I pretty much love Christmas movies in general, so today I am going to share my absolute favorite holiday movies with you in case you want to kick off your weekend with some holiday magic. You will not see any Hallmark Christmas movies on this list but rather movies I have loved for years and watching them every year is one of my (many) favorite holiday traditions.

PS: Harry Potter movies are always included on this list but will not be in this post because they are a given. Kyle and I have a HP marathon on New Year’s Eve every year. (Read: I have a HP marathon every New Year’s Eve and Kyle tolerates it.)

ONE: White Christmas

This is quite possibly my favorite Christmas movie of all time. I’ve been watching it every Christmas since I was a little girl. I may or may not have dance routines to several of the songs in the movie and I may or may not belt out the songs so loud that Kyle gets annoyed and leaves the room. If you haven’t seen this movie, please do yourself a favor and watch it immediately. It’s on Netflix right now.

TWO: Muppet Christmas Carol

Okay, probably one of the funniest takes on the classic. I love Michael Cain and Scrooge and Gonzo as Charles Dickens is comedic gold. I’ve also been watching this one since I was a little girl and though I know almost every line, it still makes me so happy. Kyle loves the song “We’re Marley and Marley”. Available to rent via Amazon.

THREE: How the Grinch Stole Christmas

(the cartoon version from 1966)

I realize many of you are like “BUT THE JIM CARREY VERSION IS SO MUCH BETTER!” I did like that version but the original cartoon has, and always will be, my favorite. I love the old animation style, the story and the fact that I don’t have Jim Carrey screaming at my every five seconds. You can rent it on Amazon.

FOUR: The Family Stone

You guys, I love this movie. I love, love, love, love this movie. I love its heart, its humor, the cast and the fact that we’ve all been in Sarah Jessica Parker’s shoes…and Rachel McAdams’s shoes. I also just love Sarah Jessica Parker and Rachel McAdams. I also love Diane Keaton. If you haven’t seen this movie, please watch it. Honestly I haven’t loved a newer holiday movie this much in years. I just really LOVE this movie. You can rent it on Amazon.

FIVE: A Christmas Carol

(the 2009 version by Robert Zemeckis, starring Jim Carrey)

I loved this version of A Christmas Carol. The animation was amazing, the humor was perfect and I thought it was awesome. This is a version I watch every single year and, though it's kind of dark, it makes me really happy.

SIX: LOVE ACTUALLY

Sorry, I’m a girl who loves Christmas. Of course this movie is going to be on my list. I’ve already watched it twice this year.

And there you have it: the best Christmas movies ever according to me. Now, tell me yours!
