The inaugural Coffee Date post. You all knew it was coming. Once a month we're going to "check in" over coffee. Some fun stuff, maybe some serious stuff....who knows....we'll just go where the caffeine and conversation take us.

If we were on a coffee date......we would be meeting at Stoked Coffee in Ventura. I love this place: it's tucked away in a little courtyard in downtown Ventura and it's such a cute spot. I know you'll love it. I recommend the almond milk lattes. Or the chai.

If we were on a coffee date......I would tell you it's been another hard week for our community. First the Thomas Fire in December, now mudslides in Montecito. So many lives lost, so many still missing, so many homes destroyed. Through this unbelievable tragedy there have been some incredible stories of bravery and resilience. Seeing the unity of the members of our community has been encouraging and inspiring. Our community is hurting but from the mud and ash, we will rise. If I've learned nothing else from these disasters, its that there is always something to be grateful for.

If we were on a coffee date......I would ask for permission to brag on my girl Simi Botic. BECAUSE SHE WROTE A BOOK. Wait, sorry, SHE WROTE A BOOK WHILE HAVING AN INFANT. You might ask "is she a super hero?" My answer will be "ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY." I would tell you that her book is the best book in the world, and not just because it has LEO in the title. She wrote about giving up the idea of perfection, about trying to control what you can't and letting go of the question "will I ever be enough?" I would encourage you to order the book ASAP. You can order it here

If we were on a coffee date.....I would ask if you watch This Is Us because I do and I need someone to talk about it with. I think it's probably one of the best shows on TV right now, and every single week it gives me all the feels.  I would ask who your favorite character is, and I would tell you I LOVE RANDALL. I mean, all the characters are great in their own ways but RANDALL IS THE BEST RIGHT? This is something we can all agree on, right? RANDALL FOREVER.

If we were on a coffee date.....I would ask if you saw Oprah's Golden Globe speech. I would tell you that it moved me to tears, as only Oprah can do. Say what you will about her, but, to me, Oprah is a queen. I've loved her ever since I was a little girl, and her words were so powerful on so many levels. I'm not the least bit ashamed to admit that I idolize her.

As we left the coffee shop, I would hug you and say how happy I am that we started doing this. I would tell you I need more balance in my life and coffee dates make me feel balanced. I would ask if we can do this again soon.....

Maybe next month? Same place?

I Believe......

New Year, Same Me, But Hopefully Healthier
